30th Anniversary Pioneer Day at Shingle Creek 2022

November 11, 2022 - November 12, 2022

November 11, Friday before the even has been set aside as an “education day” for school field trip groups.

November 12 @ 10:00 am – 4:00 pm Open to the Public with Free Admission
Pioneer Day is about pioneer and Seminole life demonstrations, live music, a Florida-made market, and kids’ activities.

EFR and Seminole friends are welcome to participate on both days or just on Saturday. We can arrive any time Thursday the 9th if planning to set up a campsite. To arrive Thursday and stay over the weekend, the museum needs to have the attendees’ names in advance. There is an Osceola County Sheriff’s Deputy who lives on site, and he needs to know who is going to be there after regular park hours. Friday will be tabletop accouterments, campsite demos, muskets, and other demonstrations. You should plan on coming prepared to teach. The same will hold for Saturday when the public is welcome. There are no restaurants within walking distance. The park is surrounded by residential property and preservation lands. It is very easy driving to access Highway 192. The first traffic light (about half a mile) has a WaWa, Aldi’s, and a Walmart. You can either plan on foraging out on Highway 192 or bring a brazier and cook. Should be able to get snacks during the day in the village.

The Pioneer Village is comprised of a permanent collection of authentic structures which once stood in different areas of Osceola County. They were carefully relocated to our present location and gently preserved to demonstrate how life was once lived before our modern times. The village includes a general store and post office, schoolhouse, church, train depot, homesteads from Osceola settlers, Seminole settlement, a cow camp, and working structures such as a blacksmith shop, citrus packing plant, cane grinder, and barn.

If you cannot camp, that is OK. We would love to have you help Saturday. Teardown will be Saturday after 4 pm. For direct questions, you can call the event manager, Bill Morgan (407) 427-9692 is his cell. The village has two “real” bathrooms that overnighters can access, and there will also be plenty of portlets on the property. Dress is EFR rev war or Seminole Wars. Bring a chair to sit in. It will be a great fall event. Hope to see you there!

Participant Registration

There are two forms required for those who will be attending either Friday’s Educational Day or Saturday’s Anniversary Event. One form will ask you to describe your educational theme and the other is a required release of liability. The museum has evening security so your information must be provided to the museum in order to be on the property after hours.
