The kit will consist of a blanket upon which the standard accoutrements of a Ranger will be present. If a table is available, use it to elevate the kit. While not specific to the list, some accoutrements for consideration are:
- Knife (simple sheath, wood handle, 6 to 8 inches blade length)
- Axe/hawk and sheath
- Cartridge case
- Canteen (wooden or tin)
- Cow’s Knee
- Oil Cloth
- Blanket
- Gaiters
- Other items of clothing (socks, shirt, breaches, weskit, outer jacket, belt, neck tie)
- Cup
- Eating utensils
- Corn Boiler
- Plate/bowl
- Fire Starting Kit
- Fishing Kit
- Haversack
- Buckle Shoes
- Ranger Hat
- Writing Kit
- Journal
- Candle/small folding lantern
- Period correct pocket knife
- Musket tools (whisk & pick, knapping hammer, turn-screw)
- Parched corn, dried peas, hardtack
- Tobacco/pipe
- Toilet kit (comb, washcloth, soap, tooth brush, razor)
- Medical Supplies (E.G., bandages, needle and thread)
- Other items normally carried by a Ranger can also be included in the kit.
All edge weapons must be in their sheath and visitors/guests cannot handle them. Rules vary with events but stay conservative on this.
The demonstration will consist of answering questions about the kit and the East Florida Rangers.
