EFR Demonstration – The Field Kit

The kit will consist of a blanket upon which the standard accoutrements of a Ranger will be present.  If a table is available, use it to elevate the kit. While not specific to the list, some accoutrements for consideration are:

  • Knife (simple sheath, wood handle, 6 to 8 inches blade length)
  • Axe/hawk and sheath
  • Cartridge case
  • Canteen (wooden or tin)
  • Cow’s Knee
  • Oil Cloth
  • Blanket
  • Gaiters
  • Other items of clothing (socks, shirt, breaches, weskit, outer jacket, belt, neck tie)
  • Cup
  • Eating utensils
  • Corn Boiler
  • Plate/bowl
  • Fire Starting Kit
  • Fishing Kit
  • Haversack
  • Buckle Shoes
  • Ranger Hat
  • Writing Kit
  • Journal
  • Candle/small folding lantern
  • Period correct pocket knife
  • Musket tools (whisk & pick, knapping hammer, turn-screw)
  • Parched corn, dried peas, hardtack
  • Tobacco/pipe
  • Toilet kit (comb, washcloth, soap, tooth brush, razor)
  • Medical Supplies (E.G., bandages, needle and thread)
  • Other items normally carried by a Ranger can also be included in the kit.

All edge weapons must be in their sheath and visitors/guests cannot handle them.  Rules vary with events but stay conservative on this.

The demonstration will consist of answering questions about the kit and the East Florida Rangers.
