SUMMARY:Enemy at the Gates
DESCRIPTION:Friday evening\, the Historic Florida Militia joins the National Park Service presenting “Enemy at the Gates.” This special presentation with a very limited amount of tickets to be sold\, takes visitors in small groups through various vignettes representing historical events during the siege of 1740 in St. Augustine. In the past stations have included: Oglethorpe and his commanders discussing the siege\, soldiers in the ravelin (fortified entrance area) discussing rumors\, reports from Indian allies of the Spanish on Fort Mose\, discussions on dwindling supply situation at Castillo\, report from Engineering officer\, Medical station\, troops preparing for surprise attack on Fort Mose’. DESCRIPTION:The Walk Back in Time historical timeline event at the Florida Agricultural Museum has been expanded from a one-day program to a three-day event. Friday\, November 22 will be a school tour day when participants will present demonstrations and living history interpretations to school students. Saturday and Sunday\, November 23-24\, the museum and the event’s participants will be open to the public. Camping will be welcomed\, and participants are encouraged to spend the weekend at the facility.

DESCRIPTION:Members of the Historic Florida Militia and our friends from outside our group are invited to participate in the Founder’s Day / Landing celebrations on Saturday September 7\, 2019. We are looking for 16th Century historically clad men and women\, (Historic to St. Augustine) to be a part of the Landing ceremony on the grounds of the Mission Nombre de Dios. We have a few spots available for flag bearers\, cannoneers\, musketeers\, Spanish Soldiers\, Native Americans and settlement folk. \nThere will be two practices for this event. The first will take place at the Mission on Thursday evening August 29th starting at 6:00pm. This will be a walkthrough practice and does not require garb. \nThe second practice on Friday September 6th\, also at the Mission\, will be a “dress rehearsal” and will start at 6:00pm. The Mission will supply dinner that evening for those involved in the rehearsal. \nAlso there will be a weekend encampment at the Fountain of Youth. Set up will be Friday Sept 6 and take down will be Sunday Sept 8.\nIf you are interested in participating\, please contact Bob Alvarez at ribob2013@aol.com. or private message me and he will fill you in on all the details.
